Retailers are preparing for the launch of the PlayStation 4 on Friday

Asda has secured extra stock of Sony’s PlayStation 4 ahead of the next-gen console’s UK release this Friday.

Customers without pre-orders will still be able to purchase the £349 gaming console with limited stock available at midnight openings across 155 Asda stores.

The Walmart-owned retailer will sell the PlayStation 4 at a base price of £349, as well as offering a £379 bundle featuring the game Knack and a £385 bundle with Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Retail rival Tesco is offering the Knack bundle £6 dearer at £385. However, new customers will be offered a £10 discount if they pre-order online.

Rival console the Xbox One, which launched last Friday, sold more than one million units worldwide in its first 24 hours of release, according to Microsoft. With 150,000 consoles sold in the first 48 hours in the UK, retail monitor Chart-Track estimated that Xbox One sales will be twice as big as those recorded for Xbox 360’s launch week back in 2005.
