Danone is following in the footsteps of Rachel's by launching a range of pouring yoghurts under its Activia brand.

The yoghurts (rsp: £1.99/950g) come in three variants strawberry, vanilla and natural and are intended to be used with cereal, as an alternative to milk. They can also be used in smoothies, to pour over fruit, or for drinking.

It was "convenient to use and tastes great, plus of course, it has all the nutritional benefits of Activia", said a spokeswoman.

It also contained the same fat content and equivalent calcium content of semi-skimmed milk.

Activia pouring yoghurts have been rolling into selected stores since the beginning of October and will be stocked by multiples nationwide.

Organic dairy company Rachel's introduced what it claimed was the UK's first pouring yoghurt in February.
