Buyers from across the grocery industry have identified their best suppliers of branded goods as part of an exclusive survey by this magazine, the results of which are published this week.
Coca-Cola Enterprises, Diageo, Heinz, Kimberly-Clark, Kraft, Lever Fabergé, Masterfoods, McCain, Müller, Unilever Bestfoods, Young's Bluecrest and Warburtons have all emerged as category champions in the 2003 Branded Supplier Survey.
Our survey covered 10 key categories and the criteria for excellence included consistency of product quality, value for money and new product development skills.
Buyers said their top suppliers shared one thing in common which was their commitment not only to deliver on time but to make time to build relationships.
The category champions have all been placed on a shortlist for the Grocer Gold Award for best branded supplier. Of those 12 shortlisted, senior buyers will vote for the one company they believe deserves the accolade branded supplier of the year.
These senior buyers will also vote for the best own label supplier of the year, using a shortlist comprising the category champions in our own label suppliers survey published last month.
Both awards will be announced at The Grocer Gold Awards dinner which takes place at Claridge's in London on June 11.
Julian Hunt, editor of The Grocer, said: "This is the first time anybody has tried to gauge the opinion of buyers across the industry to identify the best suppliers in the business. And the two suppliers who emerge victorious on the night will have the satisfaction of knowing they have won because customers believe they are the best."
