A new online wine buying club has launched that is designed to help independents, wine merchants and parts of the on-trade "buy like Tesco".

The Clink Buying Club, part of London-based distributor Clink Wines, is free for users to register and aims to save them 15%-25% on their normal costs.

CBC will list exclusive and winery labels ranging from entry-level house wines to premium and award-winning wines. It will also offer a featured wine every few days as new products come on board. No labels available in the high street will be sold.

The club will use Facebook as a forum to allow users to post their own promotions, post requests for new wines and encourage consumers to visit their independent outlets pubs or restaurants.

Clink will take a small fee for processing and importing the wine and will pass savings on to the club. A partner logistics provider will manage deliveries and Clink will hold some bonded stock to ensure customers can sample goods prior to purchasing.

The new online vehicle offered one of the most streamlined wine buying models in the industry, claimed Clink Wines MD Catherine Monahan.

"The UK market is competitive we wanted to help people buy smarter and sell wines at better prices to make more margins and not go under," she said.

A wholesale industry source said independent wholesalers were still able to supply local shops with speciality brands at good prices so the club would need to offer highly competitive prices and marketing support and very efficient delivery.
