Thanet Earth

Thanet Earth has set up a website for schoolchildren and students studying its greenhouse operations as part of their GCSE science coursework.

Discoverthanetearth.co.uk, which went live this week, features resources for primary and secondary schoolchildren and teachers. Children can also take a virtual tour of the site, including the glasshouses, the engine room and loading bay.

Media coverage of Thanet Earth had led to considerable public interest in the site and it was now cited in school textbooks and used as a case study for GCSE science students, a spokeswoman said.

It was not realistic for Thanet Earth to offer schoolchildren real-life tours of Thanet Earth, but there was a real thirst for classroom resources. “The natural next step for us has been to begin the development of fresh ideas for teachers and to bring pupils on a ‘virtual’ tour online.”

The website also features educational videos, a stock of photos that can be used free of charge, and information on careers linked to the site.

Thanet Earth already visits schools to talk about its greenhouse operations.
