Packs of ground almonds have been withdrawn as they may contain traces of peanuts

Packs of ground almonds have been withdrawn from sale by Whitworths and Sainsbury’s, and recalled by Tesco, as they may contain traces of peanuts.

The Foods Standards Agency has warned the products are a potential health risk to anyone with a peanut allergy.

The affected lines are all date codes of:

  • Whitworths Ground Almonds: 100g, 150g and 1kg
  • Sainsbury’s Ground Almonds: 100g and 200g
  • Tesco Ground Almonds: 100g and 200g

Sainsbury’s said it discovered the issue during routine testing, adding that it had not had any customer complaints.

“It has been brought to our attention that some packs of by Sainsbury’s ground almonds may contain traces of peanuts,” said a spokesman. “As a precautionary measure we have removed them from display and we are asking customers who have a peanut allergy to return them to a Sainsbury’s store where they will receive a full refund.”

Whitworths said testing had revealed traces of peanut protein in a small percentage of packs. “The withdrawal is a precautionary measure to protect customers with peanut allergies,” added a spokesman.

No other Whitworths, Tesco or Sainsbury’s products are known to be affected.
