Riverside guten free pizza

The new-look packs roll into Morrisons on 24 March

Riverside Bakery is launching what it claims is the UK’s first chilled gluten-free savoury pastry range.

Rolling out to Whole Foods Market next month, the No G: Too Good To Be Gluten Free range includes pies, frittata, quiche and a tart priced from £2.19 to £3.29. Riverside is discussing further listings with supermarkets.

The Nottingham-based baker - which supplies own-label chilled quiche, flans and savoury tarts to Asda, M&S and Sainsbury’s - spent over a year developing the pastry and has invested £250,000 in the project.

“Gluten-free is a rapidly growing sector and we spotted a gap in the market for high-quality and great-tasting products,” said Riverside Bakery spokesman Sam Benjamin. “An increasing number of people can’t eat gluten and one of the things they miss is pastry.”

There was plenty of space in the market for chilled food-to-go for gluten-free shoppers, said FreeFrom Food Awards organiser Michelle Berriedale-Johnson.

The initial No G line-up, officially launching at Food & Drink Expo at the NEC on 24 March, is described as phase one of a three-phase roll-out.
