Walkers is highlighting the 99-or-less calorie count of its Quavers, Wotsits, French Fries and Squares brands on front of pack.

The products had been grouped to target women watching their waistlines in the new year, said owner PepsiCo.

Small bags of French Fries and Quavers were already under 99 calories, while the Wotsits and Squares bags had been reduced by 1g and 3g respectively to bring down the calorie count.

“It is a little-known secret that these much-loved brands are lower in calories,” said marketing manager for Walkers Snacks Delphine Haas. “There is a huge growth opportunity in letting more people in on their secret.”

The move comes a week after the FSA proposed reductions in the portion sizes of snacks and in the same month as an IGD proposal for packaged retail products to give nutrition information for the portion size, not just per 100g.
