Booths is following in Waitrose’s footsteps by offering its loyalty cardholders free coffee and newspapers.

The chain has also started offering a 10%-off voucher on new and seasonal products, as well as £1 vouchers on multibuys of meat and fish.

The Booths card - launched this summer - already offered 5% voucher rewards on purchases of six bottles of wine. At launch, other perks included a free reusable bag after three shops and a free quarterly digital magazine.

“The popularity of the Booths Card has been really overwhelming and exceeded our expectations,” said Booths marketing manager Danny Martin. “We hope the additional benefits will enable Booths customers to get even greater pleasure from their shop.”

Like the myWaitrose card, which offers free coffee and newspapers, as well as 10% off selected products, the Booths Card is not a conventional points-based loyalty card. But unlike myWaitrose, it offers money off in the form of vouchers that are accumulated and sent to cardholders in the post when rewards reach £5.

In a link-up with tech company eReceipts, the Booths Card also pioneers paperless receipts. Cardholders can do away with paper receipts and keep track of their spending online on the retailer’s website or via a mobile app.

Last month, The Grocer revealed that Morrisons would follow Booths to become the first of the big four to launch paperless receipts. Tesco is also believed to be in talks with eReceipts.
