Poundstretcher store

Poundstetcher has introduced a dedicated petcare offering in 10 of its larger stores as it looks to grab a bigger share of the £1.7bn petfood market.

The discount chain said it planned to add Pet Hut to three more UK stores before the end of the year. Future stores would ideally be around 20,000 sq ft to accommodate 3,000-4,000 sq ft for Pet Hut, it said. Recent store openings include Leicester, Mansfield and Sunderland.

“We have no plans to sell livestock,” said Poundstretcher owner Aziz Tayub. “The range will consist of food for dogs, cats, small animals, fish and wild birds, plus pet accessories. Giving petcare dedicated space is a natural progression for us.”
