Robert Birch, Dino Ransome and James Campbell have joined the field sales team of Young's Seafood. A further two appointments are expected to be confirmed this month.

Fresh coffee roaster Gala Coffee has named James Hodgson finance director. He joins from Kimberly-Clark, where he was finance and supply chain leader. Russell Millar has also joined the team as customer services manager.

Dr Mike Varley is to join Bpex next month as head of knowledge transfer, research and development. He has been working as an independent consultant.

The former economist and MSP Andrew Wilson has joined the governing board of SCRI, Scotland's crop research institute based at Invergowrie.

Dr Paul Clüver has been elected chairman of Capespan Group for a further term. He has been chairman of the group since 1999. Crispin Sonn, executive director at Old Mutual SA, and Antonie Jacobs, CEO of Zeder Investments, have joined the board of directors.

William Grant & Sons has appointed Ronald Wall chief financial officer for the US and Mexico. Wall, who replaces Jim Heaton, is currently senior vice president for spirits and national accounts at Diageo US.

Don McGeorge, president and chief operating officer of US supermarket chain Kroger, is to retire. McGeorge, who has worked at Kroger for 32 years, will be replaced by W Rodney McMullen, who has worked at Kroger since 1978, most recently as executive vice president of strategy, planning and finance.

Italian wine producer Cavit has appointed Enrico Zanoni as general manager with a brief to develop the company's international business. Zanoni joins from export-focused supplier Illva Spa Wine & Spirits.

Robert Graham, the son of the founder of Graham's The Family Dairy, Scotland's largest independent dairy, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Heriot-Watt University for his "outstanding contribution to Scotland's dairy industry and for his demonstrated leadership in the context of small and family-owned businesses".
