Kettle sweet potato chips

Kettle Foods has pulled its sweet potato chips after some packs were labelled as containing no gluten

Kettle Foods has withdrawn some packs of the sweet potato crisps it only started rolling out to retailers this month.

It has withdrawn its Sweet Chilli Oven Baked Sweet Potato Chips from trade customers as the product contains wheat, but a label on packs states the chips have ‘no gluten-containing ingredients’. Wheat is listed on the ingredients label, however.

The Food Standards Agency said the product was a possible health risk for anyone who has an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, and Kettle Foods has asked relevant allergy support groups to tell their members about the withdrawal.

The affected products are 80g packs with the following best before dates and batch codes: 16 June 2014 (4050 and 4051); 21 June 2014 (4057); 28 June 2014 (4063 and 4064); 5 July 2014 (4070).

Kettle Foods said no other products were affected, adding that stock was only being withdrawn from the trade and was not being recalled from the consumer.

“The packaging is being reprinted and we anticipate the product being back on sale within a few days,” said a spokesman for the business.
