costcutter local pride

Costcutter is launching a new charity fundraising initiative to help its 2,600 independent retailers connect with their communities.

Local Pride will allow retailers to receive support and fundraising tools to raise money for local charities and community causes.

Retailers who sign up will be given a store fundraising page and a paying-in card provided by the programme administrators at Charities Trust.

Monthly electronic payments will then be made to the charities based on the funds raised, which will also be eligible to claim Gift Aid providing 25p extra per £1 raised.

“Our store owners take great pride in being part of their local communities and have a tremendous track record in terms of supporting causes which are important to their customers and raising vital funds for local charities,” said Costcutter charity brand manager Heather de Groot.

“We wanted to support their efforts by making the process as simple as possible and optimising every penny raised. “Our members wanted to unite their teams, shoppers and community behind worthwhile local causes and give meaningful and regular donations.” Retailers will be able to choose which charities or community causes they would like to fundraise for in-store.

“Our members can support up to two good causes a year as long as it is a UK-based registered charity or not-for-profit organisation which operates in their local area,” said de Groot.

“Many are planning fundraising events and campaigns as well as encouraging shopper donations. We have also recommended that our members donate the 5p carrier bag proceeds to their chosen cause.

“Next year we plan to work closely with our suppliers to participate in the programme and support our members with charitable promotions, along with launching merchandise and other initiatives to further support our members’ fundraising.”
