Asda’s stores tzar Craig Bonnar has left the supermarket chain after more than 20 years to join Travelodge.
Bonnar, who became Asda’s vice president for store proposition and format development in 2014, will take up his new role as chief operating officer at the hotel chain with immediate effect.
The former checkout worker rose through the ranks at the Walmart-owned discount supermarket through its graduate training programme to hold a number of senior positions, including operations director for Scotland and Northern Ireland and managing director of its city facilities management.
“Craig was a valued colleague and we wish him the very best for the future,” an Asda spokeswoman said.
In his new role, Bonnar will be responsible for leading Travelodge’s operations across more than 500 hotels in the UK and Spain.
