Appearing alongside The Muppets and Sylvester Stallone in two memorable ads in the last year, Warburton’s celebrity status with the telly-viewing public is assured.
More importantly, his was the only baker of the big three to increase volume sales -and while Hovis and Kingsmill sales fell 14.2% and 23.3% respectively, Warburtons’ stayed more or less flat.
Proving there’s life in plant bread yet, he also capitalised on the success of its Sandwich Thins, launching novelty Shapes, followed by Thin Bagels, Warburtons’ second move into bagels in 25 years, the first having “failed miserably” admits Warburton.
