In 2010 over one million tons of mackerel, a quarter of the stock, migrated into the Icelandic exclusive economic zone during the feeding season, 4-5 months, and increased its weight there by some 25% with obvious impact on other important fish stocks in Icelandic waters and the zone's marine ecosystem. This trend continues.
-- It is totally unfair of the EU to ignore such facts, which fully justify Iceland's share in the mackerel fishery. Let us also remember that the EU turned down Iceland´s proposal that the respective countries reduce their quotas proportionately to keep combined mackerel catches within the Total allowable catch (TAC) limit.
