Is dairy free ice cream a flash in the pan? We ask two industry players what they think. Here’s what they say…

No it isn’t…

”The dairy free market is certainly no ‘flash in the pan’. Aside from the latest impressive market performance, more and more people are being diagnosed as lactose intolerant and coconut milk has now been established as both a delicious and healthy alternative. In a category where the plant based options can taste just as delicious as the dairy offerings, we can’t see it slowing down.”

James Averdieck, co-founder of dairy-free brand The Co-operative Collaborative.

Yes it is…

“Dairy-free is a flash in the pan whereas sugar will always be the enemy. Dairy free is a vocal but tiny market, and a very crowded one. If we were in dairy-free, we’d be worried about Ben & Jerry’s coming in. It will do well – but there is a ceiling for dairy-free sales.”
