Coffee chain Starbucks plans to introduce a new restaurant-style string to its bow, by offering alcohol and upmarket food after 4pm at select locations.

The concept, which is already in place in 32 locations in the US, will begin in the UK with the Starbucks located inside Stansted airport, before being rolled out to coffee shops across the UK. The menu offered includes a cheese board, truffle mac & cheese and prawn & chorizo skewers, and will be available alongside the usual Starbucks range.

A spokesperson said: “We are delighted to launch the first Evenings Programme in the UK. Providing a welcoming coffeehouse environment has always been our focus and now we can offer something new for the evening too.” The chain hopes the move will stop it losing evening custom to competing restaurants and bars.
