Chartman Retail has entered double figures with the acquisition of a 10th store, in Lydford, Somerset.

Formerly a Budgens owned by Tom and Allan Taylor, Chartman converted the store to a Spar fascia last month and work to improve the offering is underway. The 2,800 sq ft forecourt will feature a range of food-to-go and Spar Daily Deli alongside a full grocery offer, and a new in-store post office.

The store is the ninth forecourt for the group, which also has one Spar convenience store in its portfolio located across the South West of England.

“We have switched to a Spar fascia and are currently working on improving the store offering, including the installation of a post office,” said Chartman executive director Clive Sheppard.

After a year of consolidation in 2015, Chartman is to expand by acquisition this year. The group posted a £2m turnover increase to £46m for the year to 31 October.
