Waitrose has opened its first cashless store at Sky TV’s new headquarters in West London.
The retailer reaffirmed that in doing so it was also the first major supermarket brand to open a cashless store in the UK.
The Little Waitrose is just 1,400 sq ft in size and the second smallest in the Waitrose estate.
It has five self-service checkouts and customers are only able to pay by card or by mobile device.
The branch is inside Sky Central, the newest office building on the Osterley campus, which is expected to house 3,500 staff.
Its range will focus on evening meals and food to go, including fresh sandwiches, wraps and sushi.
It is also stocking a selection of fresh produce and ingredients, celebration cakes, freshly cut flowers and store cupboard staples with bread and croissants baked each day.
In addition it will have travel accessories and a mini health and beauty range designed for staff making last-minute decisions about travel or activities such as going to the on-site gym.
Sky Central adds to Sky’s Osterley campus, which is home to 7,250 people working at its media studios, a health and fitness centre and the Believe in Better Building, which houses the Sky Academy for young people.
When the Little Waitrose branch was first announced at the end of March this year, Nick Green, director of Sky’s property service group, said it would be a great asset for staff.
