Spar is continuing to strengthen its own-brand products with a revamp of its entire crisps range and the launch of new mini ice creams, which will appear in stores from next month.

Spar has added “new and improved” flavours to its crisps range and a new pack design that it says will help them stand out on-shelf. The symbol group hopes the 18 different crisps products will rack up £2.6m of annual sales.

They include seven different impulse grab bags, price marked at 39p, including new variants, such as Sour Cream & Chive Waffles, as well as Salt & Vinegar Crunchy Sticks, Onion Rings, Cheezies and Bacon Grills.

An eight-strong “sharing” bag range includes new large bags of Burger Bites – which are new – and Tortilla Chips, price marked at £1.

The company has also relaunched its Hand-Cooked Crisps with a new Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar flavour, updated pack design and a “permanent” price mark of £1.29.

Susan Darbyshire, Spar UK brand director said the packs had been updated with reference intakes to comply with the Food Information Regulations.

“The grab bags are a great impulse purchase…while the large bags are now a more consistent range. Our hand-cooked crisps can now be positioned alongside premium brands, thanks to the new look,” she said.

Meanwhile, the new mini ice creams come in four flavours – milk, dark, white and almond, in packs of eight with a £2 price mark.

They complement Spar’s own-brand range of Belgian chocolate ice creams launched last year.

“Adding new variants to our successful Spar brand ice-cream range is also an important part of helping all our retailers boost sales throughout the summer,” Darbyshire said.
