Spar is extending a trial of Holland & Barrett convenience health and wellbeing concept stores to 10 further stores after a successful trial in three stores in Northern Ireland.

The Henderson Retail company-owned stores, in Ashbury, Greencastle and Ranfurly, have been stocking a wide range of Holland & Barrett products including skincare, vitamins, minerals, food supplements and protein shakes since the start of the year.

Spar is now in the process of rolling out the concept to a further 10 stores in the province.

Stores will feature three bays of Holland & Barrett products and customers will also be able to take advantage of the health retailer’s promotions.

Spar MD Debbie Robinson said Holland & Barrett was not only one of the UK’s largest retailers but “a great fit for Spar”.

“Health and wellbeing is on trend, and as the UK’s leading symbol convenience group, we are constantly looking at ways to innovate and meet the needs of our consumers.

“This partnership with Holland & Barrett fits very well with our brand, driving more health-conscious consumers into our stores.

“Our initial three-store trial has been a great success, and we are delighted to extend it to a further 10 Spar stores across Northern Ireland,” she added.

The partnership follows similar strategic tieups Spar and its retailers have forged with the likes of Subway, Greggs, Costa and Cheeky Coffee Co. And Robinson stressed that Spar was keen to work with new partners.

“Partnerships with new businesses are a key part of our Growing Together strategy,” she added.

Paul Cobbin at Holland & Barrett said: “We are pleased with the initial results and are working to extend and enhance this strategic trial.”
