Warburtons has expanded its presence in the north of England with the purchase of Rathbones’; bakery site in Yarm Road, Stockton for an undisclosed sum.
The plant will serve a cross-section of Warburtons’ existing retail customers across the north east of England. Jonathan Warburton, chairman of Warburtons, said: “The north of England is one of our strongest trading areas where demand for products continues to grow. The addition of another strategic site in the south of the region makes sound business sense. It will help us provide an even better service.”
The company said the plant would take nine months to refurbish before production could re-commence. Warburtons has yet to decide which lines the factory will produce. The acquisition gives Warburtons 11 bakeries and nine depots.
