InBev UK is trialling a citrus flavoured beer as the second brand extension to its Beck's brand this year.

Beck's Green Lemon has a lower alcohol content at 2.5% abv than its 5% abv parent brand and the recently-launched 4% abv Beck's Vier, which was introduced in February this year to fill the gap between mainstream and premium brands.

The company said it was approached by Tesco to trial the bottled beer in several of its stores. "We are always looking to develop the beer category and work closely with our customers to identify new business trends, including opportunities for our brands from our global portfolio," said a spokesman. "If consumer demand for this brand grows, we would investigate the opportunity of introducing Beck's Green Lemon on a more permanent basis."

Green Lemon follows the recent citrus line extension, Foster's Twist, by Scottish & Newcastle UK. The beer is also being tested in a number of on-trade outlets in Glasgow.
