There are no plans to revive generic milk advertising featuring Accrington Stanley - in spite of the football club's new lease of life.

The resurgent Lancashire side has hit the headlines this season by winning promotion to the Football League. In the 1980s it featured in a generic TV ad in which a boy warned his friend that if he didn't drink milk he'd end up playing for the club - which back then was languishing in the lower reaches of the football pyramid.

However, dairy bosses are to resist any temptation to capitalise on the enduring association between Accrington Stanley and milk.

A Milk Development Council spokeswoman said: "The ad's not really of this time. The market has moved on and we're not going to re-tread old ground."
