E&J Gallo has made its first foray into the booming UK Prosecco market.
The sparkling La Marca wine, available from this week, features citrus, honey and white flower aromas and is described as ‘fresh and clean’ on the palate with lemon, grape and green apple flavours (rsp: £10).
Positioned as ideal for ‘everyday special occasions’, La Marca had already proved “very successful” in the US, said E&J Gallo.
“Not only is La Marca a versatile wine and a delicious apéritif, it is also very food-friendly and we are very excited to launch it in the UK at what is still an exciting time for sparkling wines, and Prosecco in particular,” said marketing director EMEA Olga Senkina.
In the past year, sales of the Italian fizz rose 29.5%, adding £66.3m to category value [Kantar Worldpanel 52 w/e 19 June 2016]. Other sparkling wines are doing well too. Champagne sales were up 7.4%, while Cava enjoyed 7.9% growth.
E&J Gallo is supporting the UK launch with an integrated campaign.
