Asda is set to relaunch its optician service next week

Asda is set to relaunch its online optician service next week after a change of provider.

The retailer told The Grocer that its existing provider had served notice at the beginning of the year and it had now appointed another company - Lenstec - to handle the operation.

An Asda spokesman said he did not know why GetOptics had ended the relationship.

On its staff website - Asda Green Room - the retailer was this week advertising the relaunch as a new service and highlighting the 10% staff discount available.

The spokesman said he did not think that consumers would notice any major changes when visiting The service allows shoppers to order glasses, contact lenses and eyedrops for home delivery.

Customers must submit a prescription via the site - which is then verified by Asda’s optical team. They can choose from more than 400 different frames starting from £70 including lenses as well as contacts.

Asda claims more than 90% of orders are sent out within 48 hours of ordering.
