Asda is set to relaunch its optician service next week

Asda is set to relaunch its online optician service next week after a change of provider.

The retailer told The Grocer that its existing provider GetOptics.co.uk had served notice at the beginning of the year and it had now appointed another company - Lenstec - to handle the operation.

An Asda spokesman said he did not know why GetOptics had ended the relationship.

On its staff website - Asda Green Room - the retailer was this week advertising the relaunch as a new service and highlighting the 10% staff discount available.

The spokesman said he did not think that consumers would notice any major changes when visiting asda-contactlenses.co.uk. The service allows shoppers to order glasses, contact lenses and eyedrops for home delivery.

Customers must submit a prescription via the site - which is then verified by Asda’s optical team. They can choose from more than 400 different frames starting from £70 including lenses as well as contacts.

Asda claims more than 90% of orders are sent out within 48 hours of ordering.
