Sales of Welsh potatoes at Asda stores in Wales rose 40% this year on the back of its initiative to promote all things local.

Pembrokeshire potatoes were sold at all of Asda’s 15 stores in Wales, backed by a promotional campaign celebrating homegrown produce. All locally grown produce is now labelled with the Welsh flag.

Produce manager at Asda, Glyn Hughes, said: "Local sourcing makes good business sense." He noted it meant that food had less to travel and shoppers could support produce grown in and by their local community.

Asda recently launched its ‘Best of Wales’ range, introducing a 52-week supply of Welsh produce to its stores in Wales.
