The six-strong ambient line-up will be made under licence by Greencore Grocery. It was developed following consumer research suggesting cooking sauces was a natural next step for Aunt Bessie's.
Greencore is testing the range in the brand's Yorkshire heartland in an exclusive deal with Tesco to gauge consumer reaction before a nationwide rollout. It will be supported with a 25%-off promotion for six weeks and a promotion on Tesco.com.
The 500g glass jars have been designed to resemble a casserole dish and will retail for £1.45. The range comprises chicken casserole, honey & mustard casserole, shepherds pie, beef in ale, beef in red wine and sausage casserole flavours.
The cooking sauces category grew 3.5% last year to £742.2m [Nielsen w/e 20 September 2008].
