Frozen veg supplier AV Foods is splitting into two as the company’s Continental owners find their feet after four years of building UK sales.

AV Foods was set up in 2008 by Belgian potato supplier Agristo N.V. and Spanish veg supplier Ultracongelados Virto S.A. The companies opted for a JV to spread the risk and reduce the costs of entering the UK veg and potato market.

This month, the companies will separate, with Agristo (UK) supplying frozen potatoes to large-volume customers and Virto (UK) offering frozen veg to smaller- volume customers.

Richard Storer of AV Foods, said the split was “always our plan” and co-operation on joint ventures would continue.
