Benson & Hedges is making its first foray into rolling tobacco with an upmarket range to plug a gap in the market's premium end.

Benson & Hedges Rolling Tobacco will be available from the end of next month in gold and silver variants and will come in 12.5g and 25g packs. The gold packs will be priced at £3.02 and £5.94 respectively, while the silver option is slightly less at £2.92 and £5.74, reflecting its middle-tier proposition.

The new range would create "choice and higher profit opportunities" in what was a rapidly growing sector, said Jeremy Blackburn, head of UK communications at brand owner Japan Tobacco Industries (JTI), which already produces rolling tobacco under its Amber Leaf brand.

"The need for greater choice at the premium end of the RYO sector is met with the new products from B&H and they will deliver generous profit margins for retailers."
