Banana prices are going up. One sold for £120k last week! Mind you, it was ‘art’ – duct-taped to a wall by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, who titled the finished piece ‘Comedian’. Geddit? Us neither.
Sadly, the big-bucks banana was soon eaten in its Miami gallery by a passing performance artist, hungry for notoriety and/or fruit. To be fair it was only going to go off anyway, wasn’t it?
The gallery quickly taped up a replacement, claiming the work hadn’t been destroyed and that “the banana is the idea”. That’s alright then.
