Leading US gluten-free supplier Boulder Brands is to bring its Udi’s baked goods range to the UK this year.

The company announced today it had acquired Cheshire-based gluten-free operation Davies Bakery and would establish a British subsidiary, Boulder Brands UK.

Boulder is a $500m business in the US, where it sells a range that includes bread, rolls, bagels, cookies and granola bars under the $61m Udi’s brand. It said it plans to introduce 50 products to the UK.

“Davies Bakery has an excellent reputation for producing quality gluten-free products in the UK,” said Boulder Brands UK MD Simon Hazlett. “We are delighted with the acquisition and are looking forward to bringing an extensive, exciting range of Udi’s products to the UK market.

“Many of these will represent innovative, first to market products, which will give the consumer a much wider offering across all categories of gluten free.”

Top-selling UK gluten-free brand Genius, which earlier this year acquired two bakeries from Finsbury Foods in a £21m deal, started exporting its products to the US in 2011.
