The UK’s second largest turkey producer Brandons has been rescued from the brink of collapse.

The company, which called in the receivers in April this year, has been snapped up by Cranberry Foods, a new organisation established by joint MDs Andrew Lewins and David Horn.

Lewins said: “We set up Cranberry Foods with the express purpose of purchasing the assets of Brandons.”

Between them, the pair have 34 years of experience in the poultry industry. Lewins said: “It is our intention to grow our sales with our retail partners.”

He added that plans included the continued use of the two existing facilities in Scropton, Derbyshire, and Abergavenny, South Wales, and of the 1,100 employees he said: "Cranberry Foods is a good news story for those jobs. It’s thanks to the loyalty of our customers, workers and suppliers that the business is still here. Its those loyalties we hope to build on.”
