Finsbury Foods is looking to ramp up its Thorntons cake business with new launches planned for late autumn.

The baker, which makes Thorntons cakes under licence, said the range had a slow year in 2011/12 following reduced promotional investment, but was looking to revive its fortunes after working with Thorntons on consumer research.

“We plan to put the foot back on the gas and have some good product ideas planned for later this year,” said Finsbury CEO John Duffy. He added that the brand’s bitesize cakes had worked particularly well.

Finsbury, which makes Disney cakes under licence, said total sales in the year to 30 June had grown 9.4% to £207m.
