Kate Allum has been appointed as the new chief executive of First Milk.

Allum was executive director for cheese at the dairy group, having joined from McDonalds in March last year.

First Milk chairman Bill Mustoe said Allum had "demonstrated a clear ability to drive change in First Milk while motivating people to deliver challenging goals".

She takes over the reins from Mustoe, who stepped in to the chief executive role on an interim basis following the departure of Peter Humphreys in December.

Mustoe said he would now focus on company strategy and securing First Milk's position in the marketplace.

"Achieving sustained progress for First Milk involves putting in place a number of changes that will help us to increase the returns we can pay to members,” he said. “This appointment is part of these changes."

Allum will start in the new role on 1 May.
