A juice producer is venturing into the ice lolly market with a healthy frozen fruit juice product aimed at children.

The Chilly Billy ice pop, (rsp: 40 to 50p each), from family-run producer Bensons is made from pure English apples and a handful of raspberries, with no added sugar, water or preservatives.

"We felt there was a gap in the market for pure fruit ice pops," said MD Jeremy Benson. "Chilly Billy will not only please mothers, as it contains just pressed fruit and can be part of the RDA of fruit and vegetables, but also children as it is really tasty and looks cool."

Cotswolds-based Bensons produces three different types of individual apple juices as well as apple juice blended with other fruits such as rhubarb, pomegranate and elderflower.

Benson said the company had already recorded success with an iced fruit juice product, which it sold at farmer's markets. This encouraged the company to invest in creating child-friendly packaging and the Chilly Billy brand name.
