Asda boss Tony DeNunzio has been rewarded with a CBE in the New Year Honours list.
“I believe this honour reflects Asda’s contribution to retail excellence as well as my work with Government on competitiveness,” said DeNunzio.
Other senior figures from the food industry who received a CBE were Soil Association director Patrick Holden, for services to organic farming, and
Sylvia Jay, director general of the Food and Drink Federation.
There was also a trio of OBEs for food industry representatives - Michael Clark, managing director of International Fish Canners (Scotland), Majorie Walker, joint managing director of Walkers Shortbread and Celia Bennett, the former director of the British Meat Processors’ Association.
OBEs were granted for Bill Jordan, chairman of W Jordan (Cereals) and Angus Wilson, managing director of Wilson’s Country, based in Armagh, Northern Ireland.
Gilbert Johnson, chair of Skerries Salmon and John Alvis, managing director of West Country cheesemaker Alvis also received the OBE.
