The new boss of Sainsbury’s supermarkets arm is lining up another restructuring of the business. David Bremner, who took full control this week, is expected to unveil his ideas when Sainsbury releases its trading figures on January 19. Bremner is believed to be particularly keen to ramp up the trading side of the company’s supermarkets arm. Commentators also expect group marketing director Kevin McCarten to be given a more hands on operational role, which would almost certainly be within the supermarkets business. They point out that the arrival of Sara Weller, who joins the supermarkets business from Abbey National later this month, would free up McCarten for such a role. A Sainsbury spokeswoman said: “Sara joins in mid January at which time we will announce details of Kevin McCarten’s new role. Kevin remains a key player in the group’s future development.”
