Six cough medicines aimed at children under the age of two have been withdrawn because of overdose fears.

The products, including Asda Children's Chesty Cough Syrup and Buttercup Infant Cough Syrup, have been removed following concerns that parents might be giving children the wrong dosages. A further 90 products will also be relabelled.

"This is a precautionary measure," a spokeswoman for the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said. “These ingredients are not effective on children under two.”
