Staff working in co-operative stores are being advised by their union to accept a 10.4% pay offer. Under the deal, the hourly rate for more than 35,000 employees would rise to £5.
The offer has been made by the Co-operative Employers’ Association, which is responsible for negotiating the terms and conditions of employment across all retail co-operatives. Shopworkers’ union Usdaw will be balloting staff on the offer, made to employees on pay grades B, C and D.
These staff include general assistants and checkout operators and Usdaw is recommending that they should accept it.
Staff on other grades have been offered a pay rise of between 3% and 7.5% and will also be asked to vote, with a recommendation that they accept it.
Usdaw national officer Sharon Ainsworth said: “We are delighted with this excellent offer. We will be strongly recommending it to our membership. I’m sure those workers affected will warmly welcome this substantial rise in their take-home pay.”
