Sainsbury has moved John Coverley to fill the newly created post of head of convenience stores.

His responsibilities will include developing the instore customer offer for Sainsbury’s Local and Central formats. He will also be in charge of field operations, ensuring compliance with the offer.

A spokeswoman for Sainsbury said: “Essentially he will be building the brand proposition to meet changing customer needs and working with people in the field to do that.”

Coverley was previously senior manager for retail change. Before joining the multiple in 2001, he worked at
Woolworth’s in a number of senior posts, including regional development manager for south Wales and head of retail operations. He began his career at the high street retailer in 1982 and his last role there was head of retail and strategic programming.
