New Marks and Spencer chief executive Stuart Rose will outline his plans for the company’s food division on Thursday at an all day conference with suppliers.

M&S declined to comment on the purpose of the meeting, which will be held at M&S’ London headquarters, but a spokeswoman speaking to The Grocer magazine said Rose had: ”every part of the business under review and food is no different”.

The meeting comes amid speculation that Rose is considering ditching the Simply Food format to focus on the core clothing business.

One sales director at an M&S supplier said he was keeping an open mind. “I’ll wait and see what Rose has to say. I expect one of the first things he’ll do is take out a layer of management [in the food division].”
