John Henderson, the Northern Ireland Spar wholesaler, has appointed a new sales director charged with growing its franchise business.
Based at John Henderson’s head office at Mallusk, Co Antrim, Patrick Doody will develop and implement a strategy to grow market share, profitability and sales.
Henderson supplies more than 450 independent retailers trading under the Spar, Vivo and VG fascias as well as 52 Spar stores through its company-owned Andrew Millar division, number 11 in The Grocer Top 50 independents ranking.
The position was created after
sales and marketing director Ken McWhinney took on the role of corporate development director to focus on growing the business, including acquisitions. He had been supervising the sales role for the past 12 months.
Doody previously worked with snacks and drinks distributor Cantrell & Cochrane Group for 15 years in various positions in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
He said he would look for new ways to connect with consumers and support independent retailers.
“John Henderson is a very successful Northern Ireland company in a position of marketing leadership that is still family-run and competing effectively against very strong competition. After meeting the board it wasn’t a hard decision to join,” said Doody.
