Morrisons has signed a £6m deal for an automated voice-picking system.

Following a three-month pilot at Morrisons’ frozen distribution centre in Corby, technology company Zetes will install automatic voice-activated identification computers and headsets throughout the supply chain. Staff in ambient, fresh and frozen - who currently use a paper-based picking system - will use the equipment.

It is hoped the technology, which is set to be installed this year, will improve picking accuracy and efficiency and help support multi-lingual pickers.

“It was important to identify a supplier able to deliver and support our solution to the highest levels and we have found this in Zetes,” said Morrisons IT director Gary Barr, who is overseeing the technology review. “We are looking forward to speedy implementation.”
