Budgens has opened its northernmost store in Lindrick, Nottinghamshire, taking the company's tally to 231 stores.

Value added meats specialist Cranswick has moved into the sandwich market with the acquisition of North Wales Foods, a supplier of sandwiches and sandwich ingredients to independent retailers in Wales and the North West. CEO Martin Davey said NWF was "an extremely good business in a fast growing section of the market".

DEFRA minister Lord Whitty has mooted the idea of setting up a dairy industry forum in a bid to tackle the structural problems in the supply chain.
Dairy Industry Association director general Jim Begg said he welcomed the idea in principle.

Warrington based Spar convenience chain Alfred Jones opened its 57th store in Haydock last weekend, and is due to open another in York at the end of November. It is on target to have 60 stores in operation by the year-end.

Independent petrol retailers group Garage Watch has become an affiliate member of the Association of Convenience Stores. The group represents 4,500 members.
