What is your greatest challenge and how do you tackle it?

The greatest challenge I have is consistency in the workplace. We have won the Top Store award three times because we consistently want to be the best. We want to deliver excellent customer service and because of that customers come back. Being clean and tidy is important but excellent customer service is vital. Strong availability is also a challenge but my team has worked really hard on that.

What makes the store so successful?

Great teamwork. I make sure I develop members of the team to promote them to other jobs in the company. We're always on the lookout for new team leaders and management and we have a good team who support each other. That gives great results as whenever there's a weakness everyone jumps in to help.

What do you do in your spare time?

I enjoy playing golf and I'm also an avid Arsenal fan. As a season ticket holder I get to see them play quite often.

What is the best thing about being a store manager?

What motivates me is undoubtedly dealing with the public and our customers as well as staff. I love developing them and helping them make sure they progress through the store. Years ago when I first started someone took the time to help me progress and I've never forgotten that. That's why I think it's important to help junior members of staff.

What is the most important aspect to customers?

It's a competitive world so pricing is important. I think Morrisons has a good balance with its pricing. At store level it's important that it's clean and tidy with excellent customer service.

What plans do you have for your store in 2007?

I have been asking for more new lines and I'm impressed with our Best range. We have a mixed bag of customers and a lot of them like really good quality produce, so the range is perfect.
