Safeway is on track to have electronic shelf edge labels in 22 stores by Christmas. Chief information officer Ric Francis said: "We have had very positive feedback from customers so far. ESL has now been introduced in eight stores, and we will have the labels in 22 by Christmas."
He said Safeway planned to use the electronic price labels to make instore operations more efficient in future, storing information required by its merchandising and due diligence departments on the labels. "We will take the labels into a new phase after Christmas."
