Sainsbury is to cut prices on 500 lines across its estate on Boxing Day as it starts its first ever January sale.

Reductions of between 10% to 30%, BOGOFS and special purchases will be available on a range of non-food items and some grocery lines for the first five weeks of 2003.

A spokesman said: “The sale will include seasonal lines like crackers, but it is quite different from a Christmas clearout. The sale is not about clearing overstock, we decided to have a sale to keep the Christmas sales momentum going. We will be getting new items in for it.”

Sainsbury’s Local and Central small store formats will stock sale items, and the deals will also be available online.

Non-foods due to be reduced include electrical kitchen equipment and sports gear, bathroom towels, trainers, toys and bedroom linen.
