Morrisons is introducing an intelligent queue management system to 300 of its stores in a bid to cut customer times at tills. The system uses infra-red sensors to count customers entering and then uses average shopping and serving times to calculate the number of checkouts that need to be open. In a trial, queue times fell 5%. Last year, Morrisons and Asda customers spent most time at the tills, according to The Grocer 33. Morrisons shoppers spent an average of 5 minutes 52 seconds at tills compared with 4 minutes 40 seconds at Waitrose.
